Somewhere in the planning of our drive from Boston to Florida, the journey home had morphed into an epic pizza chasing adventure, for all the best slices we can fit within the three days and 216 mile span. I recently spent a few days in San Francisco and the surrounding area in California and I was blown away by its beautiful landscape, picture perfect clear blue skies against the sparkling bay dotted by sailboats and framed by the surrounding hills and the stunning famed San Francisco Bridge and Alcatraz Island. I was surprised at how much there was to see and experience in this amazing city and how San Francisco seemed to fall off in recent years as a tourist destination. In August 2022, my best friend and I aligned our schedules, circled a day, blocked our calendars and hit the road for the trip that came to be affectionately known by us as Utah 2.0, since we had our first Utah trip planned for 2020 and it was cancelled. Virginia is magnificent, but I’m going to cut right to the chase on this post. We did about five hikes in one week, and they were all beautiful, but hands down our favorite was Old Rag Mountain, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. This hike was the second one we did on our trip and unfortunately no hike after this compared to its splendor.
